3 Update Installations
Updates to existing aPriori installations usually take the form of either "maintenance" releases (Service Pack or Hot Fix) or "major" releases". (See Releases and Installation Types for more details.)
All update installations require you first back up your existing client software. Then, like for a first-time release, install the new aPriori client software.
Update installations do NOT require you to install database software unless you are transitioning from one database management system (DBMS) to another. For example, if you are changing from MySQL to SQL Server.
Major release update installations usually require a database upgrade as part of the update installation procedure.
Minor release update installations do not usually require a database upgrade or patch as part of the update installation procedure. An exception is when you upgrade from 2019 R1 and 2019 R1 SP1 (and their hot fixes) to 2019 R1 SP2. These upgrades do require you to run a db patch script.
Update installations typically require you to install the latest updates to aPriori Baseline Machining and Regional Data Libraries.
ALL updates must perform a "compatibility" procedure to ensure that all updated clients can operate with the database after the update.
A summary of the steps that you should and should not perform for different types of releases is provided in Summary of Required Procedures, in Chapter 1, .
