Cost Algorithms and Calculations for Sand Casting
If machining processes are included as secondary processes on Casting components, then the machining costs are computed via the Machining cost model and combined with the casting process costs to produce a total manufacturing process cost.
Total casting costs aggregate the costs of material, labor, equipment, and tooling. Typically, tooling accounts for a significant portion of the total cost. The part’s wall thickness and material (because they affect cooling time) have a significant impact on both labor and tooling costs.
