Product Cost Management for Sourcing

Students will see and then learn how to identify and address all cost drivers when gen- erating cost estimates; how to create a regional SHOULD cost estimate that can be used as an efficient manufacturing cost baseline for comparing with supplier quotes; how to explore different materials and stock forms to cut material cost; how to estimate and compare costs for different manufacturing scenarios; how to interpret process-by-process cost estimate details and the formulas and cost assumptions behind them; how to bulk cost components to look for cost outliers; and how to use cost details to help you employ fact-based price negotiations with your preferred supplier.

Managing Machines, Materials, & Other VPE Data

Follow the story of Viv, the VPE Manager for the Big Global Manufacturing (BGM) factory in Spain. Viv is working with aPriori Professional Services to create and deploy a VPE for BGM Spain by repurposing a previously-created VPE for the BGM headquarters factory. Learn how to manage and update machine, material, and tool shop data, and learn how this data is used in concert with VPE logic to output accurate cost estimates for a specific custom factory; how to manage out-of-the-box aPriori Starting Point VPEs and Regional Data Libraries; how to create and manage VPE inheritance and Overlay VPEs; how to bulk load and create cost estimates for a larger group of components manufactured in the same or different factories; and how to create and manage VPE changes within a staging environment.

Students will see and then learn how to cost parts and deep cost assemblies; how to explore different materials and their forms to cut cost while maintaining fit, form, and function; how to compare costs for alternative designs and alternative manufacturing scenarios; how cost drivers such as tolerances, surface roughness, and selected manufacturing process options impact both routings and their associated cost estimates; and how to create and manage BOMs.
