Surface Treatment Cost Model Enhancements
aPriori 2019 R2 includes a new Manual Paint process in the Surface Treatment process group. This process is included automatically when costing Composite parts, but also is available for manual inclusion in other process group routings. Manual Paint represents one or more operators manually preparing and painting the part in a paint booth facility. The cost model accounts for the cost of priming and painting the part, including sanding and cleaning of the part prior to both priming and painting, and spraying and curing of both the primer and topcoat. Generally, painting times and costs are driven by the surface area of the part to be painted as well as the number of holes which must be masked.
The baseline cost model assumes the use of aerospace-grade primers and paints and corresponding unit costs; customers may add specific paint and primers used for their part types in their VPEs. Process setup options are provided, enabling users to specify inputs such as the types of primer and paint used, number of coats required for each, and the rates (area per time) at which the part is sanded and at which primer and paint is applied, if different from the default assumptions.
