Displaying English units
By default, aPriori displays cost component information using metric units. However, you can also display values and enter inputs using English units.
The table below shows how aPriori converts between system units (metric) and English units.
| | |
Length | millimeter | inch |
meter | foot |
micron | micro inch |
Mass | kilogram | pound (lbm) |
gram | ounce |
Force | newton | pound (lbf) |
Time | second | second |
Angle | degree | degree |
Temperature | Celsius | Fahrenheit |
Energy | joule | BTU |
Power | joule/second | BTU/second |
Pressure | MPa | PSI |
Some fields will not automatically be converted. For example, some cost model and VPE field definitions can be defined by manually entering a unit, rather than a unit type in the Unit Type Name field. If a unit in the cost model used by the VPE was defined by selecting an aPriori unit type from the cost model’s Unit Type Name field, that unit is converted. All units derived from system units (that is, derived units) are also converted.
The Mass Units and Distance Units component GCD fields are never converted, because they are used to capture the mass and distance units used in the CAD file. These units do not change because they represent units defined in an external system.
To display English units
1 Select View > Show English Units from the aPriori menu bar to change labels to English units and convert values from system units to English units.
2 Select Yes on the confirmation window to switch the display and input to English units.
Converted values are displayed in italics. For example, a Hole GCD with a diameter of 25.4 millimeters is displayed with a Diameter property followed by (in.) instead of (mm) and has a value of 1.0 after you switch to English units.
To display system (metric) units
1 Deselect View > Show English Units from the aPriori menu bar to change labels to system (metric) units and convert values from English units to system units.
2 Select Yes on the confirmation window to switch the display and input to metric units.
