Using the Search tool
Use the Search tool to find a cost component or group of components that meet specific criteria. The Search tool is available:
From the Search toolbar button
When opening a cost component (select File > Open)
When deleting cost components (select Tools > Delete Components)
When adding cost components to a rollup (select Edit > Add Component from within the rollup)
When copying cost settings (click the Copy From button in the Production Info or Cost Object window, or Recently used settings > Choose another... in the Cost Guide)
Use the Search Criteria panel on the left to display all matching components and their scenarios on the right. For example, to display all parts and assemblies, click the Part and Assembly checkboxes under Component Type then click Find.
Note: System Administrators can control several aspects of the Search tool. They can set a system variable to restrict the display of search results to only those components to which the user has access. (This applies only to sites that have implemented Access Control.) They can also turn on and off the display of searchable attributes in the Search Criteria panel, including searchable User Defined Attributes (UDAs). Administrators can also rearrange the order of search attributes. What you see on this screen may differ from the screenshots shown in this section. For more information about access-restricted searches, User Defined Attributes, and customizing the Search Criteria panel, see the aPriori System Administration Guide.
You can combine any or all of these criteria to help you find cost components. If you do not wish to constrain your search by a given criteria, then leave that field blank. A
While most of the search criteria fields are specified using drop-down menus or calendar controls, some of the search criteria fields allow you to enter text into the search field. These include Name/Part #, Description, Part Descriptor (which maps to an internal CATIA V5 part name for SmarTeam, converted to lower case). You can use implied wildcards in these text fields. For example, if you type abc into the Name/Part # field, the Search tool will display all components with names containing the characters abc.
Note that the Search tool displays all scenarios for a specific cost component (assuming that you have access permissions to them). See Working with initial scenarios on page 1 for more information.
If your site implements Access Control and has set the system variable described above to display only results to which you have access, there may be a delay before you start to see results appear in the window. For example, if Search processes 10,000 scenarios before encountering one that passes the permissions check, it may be a while before you see the screen update with this result. The Search window now provides a Progress bar to inform you of how far the operation has proceeded through matching scenarios.
Note: You can cancel a search by closing the search window. You can also reset the existing search by choosing different criteria and clicking Search again.
