aPriori 2010 Product Overview

Newest Release of aPriori's Product Cost Management Platform introduces new Turning & Mechanical Assembly Cost Modules

aPriori 2010 represents one of the largest product launches in the company's history.  By working in combination with customers such as Gardner Denver, Agco Corporation, and NCR , aPriori has developed two new manufacturing process modules, Turning and Mechanical Assembly, that are based on a comprehensive array of real-world use cases.   Furthermore, aPriori 2010 includes a significant upgrade to the Plastic Injection Molding cost module, and a wide variety of other enhancements.

Provided below are some of the key highlights for the aPriori 2010 product release.  For more information, select the Contact Us option to the right, and someone from aPriori will contact you to arrange for a personal presentation and product demonstration.

Turning & Advanced Machining

aPriori 2010 baseline cost models contain support for costing turned bar & tube or cast parts. The new cost model contains process support for 2-axis, 3-axis, 4-axis and 6-axis lathes.   Examples of Turning operations included in the aPriori 2010 release include:

  • Lathe roughing (on castings), lathe finishing, single point threading, single plunge grooving, and multi-plunge grooving. The turning cost model also supports simultaneous operations such as Pinch Turning.

Enhancements to aPriori's prismatic Machining cost include:

  • Hole making additions: Reaming, Counter boring, Grooving inside holes, Peck Drilling, Countersinking, Chamfering, Center Drilling, Rounding
  • Thread making additions: Tapping, Thread Milling, Single Point Threading
  • Other additional operations: Drag Boring, Drag Facing, Step Drilling, Pilot Hole Drilling, Pinch Turning

Mechanical Assembly

With aPriori 2010, a new Mechanical Assembly cost module has been introduced for manual line and manual bench assembly. The cost model will support estimating the cost of assembly operations, including:

  • Users will be able to define assembly operations for children of assemblies in the CAD tree. Out of the box supported operations include: load, clamp, manual screw / nut tighten, power screw / nut tighten, press fit, reorient / turn over, snap fit and tab bend.
  • Customer-specific VPEs can also be configured to support additional assembly operations.

Plastic Molding

The baseline cost model for plastic injection molding has been enhance, significantly improving geometry extraction and user setup options.

  • The improved geometry extraction provides better support for analyzing side cores and determining their impact on tooling cost. The user can now input additional characteristics about the part -- cavity finish, number of mold plates, plate material, parting line complexity, colorant in the part material -- to improve the quality of the cost estimate.
  • In addition to the currently supported Single-Shot Injection Molding, new processes can be added to Plastic Molding via the Cost Model Workbench to cost other types of plastic parts that are made via processes such as Multi-Shot Injection Molding, Blow Molding, Insert Molding, and Rotational Molding.
